Former RB2 presenter and Big Brother Africa (BBA) contestant, O’Neal Zibanani Madumo has openly admitted that he adapted well at his new home CliffCentral online radio station in South Africa.
The radio host joined the station, which is owned by media mogul Gareth Cliff as one of the first presenters to get a connection with the station’s audience.
“It is another country obviously with a big market, economy and more opportunities, much more advanced. The challenges are there as well.
I would like to say I take in my stride, it’s a very interesting experience,” said O’Neal when explaining his stay at CliffCentral.
The outspoken disc jockey hosts a two-hour online radio show titled O’Neal on CliffCentral (OCC) between 2pm and 4pm every Friday.
O’Neal on CliffCentral is a music show where the host gets to talk to different artists such as Judith Sephuma, Dr Malinga and Cassper Nyovest. He also plays local music at his South African-base. He once opened his show with Drama Boi’s Candy.
Critics have previously stated that CliffCentral is a white audience-oriented radio station that does not cater much for blacks.
O’Neal was quick to rubbish the claim saying, “I don’t know what forms that opinion, maybe as consumers it sounds as if they are consuming a white targeted product. But look, it’s an online platform. Whoever chooses to consume what we are offering you become our market. It is like saying the Internet is meant for white people not for black people; it is open for everyone”.
At CliffCentral he works alongside other renowned radio presenters that include Cliff himself and former Gabz fm presenter, Simba Mudereri who recently joined the station.
He believes Botswana is at a stage where it can also have online radio stations due to the high rate of Internet usage in the country. He stated that with proper resources and support there could be good online radio stations.
O’Neal was recently in the country to host the Miss Botswana Fashion Show where he showed he still has the touch on stage and easily relates with the audience. The show was held at the Molapo Piazza on Saturday.
